Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated Scientist with the ability to work as a member of the Seed Technology Research Group WW. This position would be aimed at developing innovative enhanced seed technology products.

Responsibilities:
 Conduct basic and applied research on vegetable seeds in the following areas:
 Seed Enhancement: priming and invigorising technology
 Seed Application Technology: pelleting, coating, filming and adhesives
 Seed Treatments: application and loading of active ingredients (insecticides, fungicides, biologicals, plant growth activators)
 Seed Cleaning: conditioning & upgrading technolog
 Seed and Seedling Quality Diagnostics

 Use appropriate laboratory tools and resources including germination chambers, plug testing facilities, and analytical instruments to identify measurable, distinguishing features and characteristics during young plant development, as well as documenting findings.
 Explore opportunities with technology suppliers, public research, universities in the area seed enhancement to gain fundamental knowledge in research areas beneficial to Monsanto Vegetables
 Work with other functions in the company to give expertise and support in the area of seed technology.
 Develop and/or optimize new or existing seed enhancement protocols.
 Write reports, summaries, and protocols regarding experiments.

Qualifications:
Required Skills/Experience:
A Masters in Molecular Biology or related field is required for this position.

This position will require knowledge of the physiology of seed germination, vigor and UT testing methods, seed testing equipment and facilities, seed conditioning equipment, and seed treatment equipment and methods.
This position will also require the following:
  • The ability to effectively communicate with groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
  • The ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific journal articles, technical procedures, government regulations, seed testing procedures, as well as train others.
  • The ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra, trigonometry and statistical techniques.
  • The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • The ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with the concept of variables.
  • The ability to regularly lift/move 40 pounds, and frequently lift/move up to 15 pounds.
