    About Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship
Frank Knox Memorial Fellowships are awarded to citizens of Australia, for graduate study or research at Harvard University. Interested ECU students must apply for consideration before entering the U.S. and prior to the start of their Harvard programs. The fellowship pays tuition and health insurance fees plus a substantial living stipend, and is renewable for a second year for students in continuing degree programs. Up to three (3) Frank Knox Memorial Fellowships will be awarded to students from Australia for graduate study at Harvard University in academic year 2013-2014.

Knox Fellowships are open to men and women who:
    are citizens of Australia at the time of application and who are normally residing in Australia

Please note that
    persons who graduated before 2008 will not be eligible to apply

A complete application must include:
·             A completed and signed Fellowship Application Form
·             Curriculum vitae
·             Short essay of no more than 1,000 words, which provides an account of the applicant's academic pursuits, intellectual interests, extra-curricular activities, and the reasons for his/her desire to study at Harvard University; the essay should also explain the applicant's plan of study at Harvard and his/her future career plans
·             Certified copies of all academic transcripts

Fellowship submission information:
    Candidates must submit their fellowship applications through the ECU Scholarships Office (details below) by closing 14 December 2012
    Applications are required to be provided by the student to ECU Scholarships office, who will then rank and forward applications to the Committee on General Scholarships at Harvard University by no later than 25 January 2013
Method of admission application:
·             Each Knox Fellowship applicant must also submit an Application for Admission directly to the Harvard graduate or professional school of his/her choice
·             Knox Fellowships are awarded only to those candidates that gain admission to Harvard as full-time degree-program students or - as permitted by certain Harvard schools - as non-degree Special Students or Visiting Fellows
·             Applicants should contact the particular Harvard school they wish to attend for further information about degree and non-degree programs offered by that school
·             Each applicant must meet the particular admission requirements, timetable and deadlines of that school. Applicants are urged to begin correspondence with that school's Admissions Office at the earliest possible date. ·             Knox Fellowship applicants seeking admission to Harvard Law School should have completed their resident university education and hold a basic degree in Law before applying for an advanced degree program such as the Master of Laws (LLM)

·             Candidates will be selected on the basis of academic excellence, strength of character, and potential for leadership in the applicant's field
·             Fellowship offers will be determined based on the recommendations from Australian universities, Harvard University admission decisions, and the review by the Committee on General Scholarships
·             Mrs. Knox expressed the hope that recipients of Knox Fellowships, after gaining knowledge and experience from study in the United States, would return to their native countries to become leaders in their chosen fields

Scholarships which have tenure over a specified term are subject to the student maintaining satisfactory academic progress and a continued enrolment in the program.  If these conditions are not met, Scholarships may be suspended or terminated.
Suspension or Termination of a Scholarship
Suspension may occur if the recipient fails to maintain satisfactory grades.  This applies to most scholarships although some specify that the recipient must maintain a GPA greater than 5.  Please read scholarship criteria carefully.
Suspension or termination will occur if the recipient is excluded from their course.  The scholarship may be reinstated if the recipient resumes their studies following the exclusion.  For this to apply, the exclusion may be no longer than 1 year.
Termination will occur if the recipient withdraws or cancels their enrolment from their course or if the recipient fails to maintain satisfactory grades over a prolonged period.
Scholarships will also be terminated if you transfer from CSU to another university or place of study.
Approved Leave of Absence (ALA)
A student, who is granted an Approved Leave of Absence from their course, may request that their tenured scholarship be placed on hold until they return to study.  This request must be made in writing stating the expected date of return to study.  The decision to allow a scholarship to be placed on hold is entirely at the discretion of CSU.
Tenured scholarships will only be placed on hold for a period no longer than 2 years.
Following re-enrolment, the student must advise of their return to study to re-activate their scholarship.
If the ALA is to extend past 2 years or at the end of 2 years, the student does not return to study, the scholarship will be terminated.

·             3 examples which demonstrate your capacity for Leadership (within your School/College/TAFE/University, community or workplace)
·             3 examples which demonstrate the difference you have made to your community (through sport, the arts or volunteering)
·             a personal statement about your story so far, e.g. what experiences have led you to tertiary study and why you deserve this scholarship? (250 words or less)
·             a statement outlining what receiving a scholarship would mean to you? (250 words or less)

Suspension may occur if the recipient fails to maintain satisfactory grades.  This applies to most scholarships although some specify that the recipient must maintain a GPA greater than 5.  Please read scholarship criteria carefully.
Suspension or termination will occur if the recipient is excluded from their course.  The scholarship may be reinstated if the recipient resumes their studies following the exclusion.  For this to apply, the exclusion may be no longer than 1 year.
Termination will occur if the recipient withdraws or cancels their enrolment from their course or if the recipient fails to maintain satisfactory grades over a prolonged period.
Scholarships will also be terminated if you transfer from CSU to another university or place of study.
Approved Leave of Absence (ALA)
·         A student, who is granted an Approved Leave of Absence from their course, may request that their tenured scholarship be placed on hold until they return to study.  This request must be made in writing stating the expected date of return to study.  The decision to allow a scholarship to be placed on hold is entirely at the discretion of CSU.
·         Tenured scholarships will only be placed on hold for a period no longer than 2 years.
·         Following re-enrolment, the student must advise of their return to study to re-activate their scholarship.
·         If the ALA is to extend past 2 years or at the end of 2 years, the student does not return to study, the scholarship will be terminated.
    Applications will close at:
    11:59pm 10 Feb 2014 for Commencing Students
    11:59pm 19 Nov 2013 for Continuing Students

Step 1
    Read the criteria carefully for each scholarship you wish to apply for to ensure that you are eligible
Step 2
Before you begin, you must prepare answers to these questions:
    3 examples which demonstrate your capacity for Leadership (within your School/College/TAFE/University, community or workplace)
    3 examples which demonstrate the difference you have made to your community (through sport, the arts or volunteering)
    a personal statement about your story so far, e.g. what experiences have led you to tertiary study and why you deserve this scholarship? (250 words or less)
    a statement outlining what receiving a scholarship would mean to you? (250 words or less)
Step 3
Before you begin, you must have copies  of:
    a copy of your resume   if you left school within the last two years: a copy of your ATAR results
    OR
    an International equivalent in place of ATAR    if a continuing student:
    check your GPA If your selection criteria involves Local Government Areas
    - electricity bill
    - phone bill
    - rates notice
    - school record
 Copies will need to be attached to your online application and provided in PDF or DOC format.
