Organizational Setting and Reporting:

This position is located in the Executive Office (EO) of the Department of Political Affairs (DPA), New York.
The DPA EO is seeking a highly motivated graduate student who wishes to gain professional experience in an international organization in order to supplement his/her studies.
This internship is practical educational experience and will provide him/her the opportunity to work in a multicultural, intergovernmental organization.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time for a period of 2-3 months, working five days per week under the supervision of the Administrative Officer.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Administrative Officer, the intern will do the following:

  •     Work with and understand the United Nations Human Resources policies;
  •     Draft standard operating procedures for various human resources processes;
  •     Review United Nations flexitime policy, review requests and maintain database;
  •     Assist in reviewing and processing requests for classifications of standardized job positions;
  •     Respond to general queries on classification procedures and processes;
  •     Archive electronically all existing job classifications;
  •     Draft and/or process a variety of correspondence and other communication;
  •     Perform other duties as required.

Education
  High school diploma or equivalent.
 Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school (second university degree or higher); or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.

Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the Internship Programme.

Languages

    English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
    For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
