MUST HAVE CURRENT DAIRY EXPERIENCE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a Vermont dairy searching for a Herd Manager. The principal role is creating the highest quality milk possible. Along with industry leading milk quality, the herd is also a breed leader in production. Strong herd management and teamwork abilities are required. Adherence to and feedback on evolving protocols and procedures is essential. Communication with barn staff and quality personnel are key to success. The Herd Manager will manage all aspects of producing cheese-making milk. Herd Manager will also initiate and maintain systems to track the efficiency and progress of an innovative small dairy operation. Duties will include herd health and breeding programs, milking and raw product oversight, and management of farm operations including whey-fed pork production, waste management operations, and fieldwork, as well as staff supervision. Day-to day responsibilities will include:

-Operational decisions

-Employee and intern training and supervision

-Cows: health, breeding, cleaning, nutrition, genetics, DHIA records, PCDART reports

-Feed- purchasing and feeding management

-Milk Quality

-Waste Water and Manure Management

-Whey Fed Swine Management

-Field Work

-Milking

-Pasture Management

-Implement and follow systems

-Creating task lists on a daily/weekly/monthly basis

-Tracking the metrics of progress, using the Open Book method

-Participate in weekly farm operation meetings, present barn metrics
