General guidelines for the Bayer Graduate Scholar Program:
Agreement for this position is for 2 years as a post graduate, Bayer employee;
The 2 years will include specific projects as well as general training for a Field Development Rep, Tech Service Rep, or Station Scientist;
If at any time during the 2 years, a field position comes open, the Grad Scholar would be given top consideration for the opening;
At the end of 2 years, if there is no immediate opening in the field we would either extend the Grad Scholar offer for another year, or end it depending on performance and potential. The Graduate Scholar must maintain competency and knowledge of biological organisms, current plant protection trends, competitive products, and advances in testing procedures to consistently improve the quality of the research program and to expedite the advancement of potential new compounds;

As a Graduate Scholar within Bayer’s CropScience division, the incumbent will conduct research and contribute to the team’s current and on-going research projects, technologies and publications. The incumbent selected for the Graduate Scholar Program will be primarily responsible for: Learning and eventually be responsible for the appropriate design and timely completion of all biological performance studies for compounds in the field development phase of new product discovery and development at the assigned field testing location(s). Must report and interpret trial data, report results, and provide recommendations for development of new or existing compounds to the appropriate management; Supporting Field Development and Technical Service by providing training on products in the pre-project and project phases and assisting with product efficacy and benefit demonstrations for the sales force and their customers. Make presentations within Bayer CropScience and on occasion to external customers for product training or at scientific meetings;
Providing direct and indirect support of sales, with indirect support being most frequent. Direct support is provided by participating in Sales Rep training, conduct of Technical Service protocols, technical review of current, pending, and proposed new product labels, and interaction with Sales Reps. Indirect support is provided through frequent interaction with Technical Service Reps, new product development, and new use discovery for current products. Impact is primarily local with most activity occurring on station. If required by Regional Development Manager, assist Field Development and/or Technical Service Reps in development of technical product positioning for the Sales District;
Networking with peers from Technical Service and Product Development to identify new business opportunities and explore means to capitalize on these opportunities and to optimize Bayer CropScience resources; Responsible for safe handling, storage, and application of pesticides. Operate vehicles and field equipment in a safe manner. If required, assists Field Development or Technical Service Representative in safety training on pesticide use to local Sales personnel;
Cooperating with Field Development and Market Support teams to conduct biological trials in crops not readily available to Field Development or Technical Service locations and staff. Provide as needed support to regional field reps to minimize the impact of periodic work overloads;
Maintaining an active status in appropriate professional societies and industry groups;
Obtaining knowledge of the relative importance of Bayer sales in the region is required to facilitate effective priority setting; Attending and contributing to company and professional meetings which will require approximately 10% of time for travel.
The selected candidate is required to possess the following: Minimum of a thesis-based M.S. degree in a biological or agricultural science, such as weed science, plant physiology, agronomy, plant pathology, seed science, entomology, etc. with some experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of field research for pesticide efficacy;
Extensive field experience is not required as this position is intended to provide that training. Expertise in a pest control discipline and functional knowledge of key crops and pests within the development region is essential;
 Working knowledge of two of the four market segments (fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, and seed treatments) is required; Effective communication and human relations skills are necessary to perform the duties of the position, influence decision makers and project a positive Bayer Crop Science technical image;
Ability to organize and prioritize work load according to relative importance to Bayer sales and company objectives;
It is desirable that the incumbent be capable of operating experimental and commercial spray equipment and hold a current commercial
