DuPont Pioneer Legal Team located in beautiful Des Moines Iowa, has a Labor & Employment Senior Counsel position available. This is a highly visible, key role within the Company and the Legal Department. This Position will require a person of vision, integrity and commitment, as well as substantial leadership and influencing experience, maturity and judgment.
The role of the Labor & Employment Senior Counsel is to provide legal services as a partner on the business teams of DuPont Pioneer and assist those teams in achieving their goals and the goals of DuPont Pioneer in the context of applicable laws and regulations, the competitive environment, company values, and shareholder expectations; serve as the department's employment law attorney for business operations in the U.S. and serve as a coordinating resource for significant international employment law and human rights issues. The successful candidate will also serve as a member of the DuPont Labor, Employment and Benefits team, working collaboratively with other company lawyers across the country.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
BUSINESS SPECIFIC LEGAL SERVICES
In addition to general legal services, routinely interface with Sr. Management and management of assigned businesses to deliver business specific legal services.
Review documentation and data to determine potential legal risks of a full range of employee relations issues, including employee terminations, reductions-in-force, or disciplinary matters and provide useful legal opinions. Prepare and provide defenses to legal claims in employment disputes. Influence corporate infrastructure, policies, and practices as appropriate. Assist the corporation in developing frameworks for both legal and business analyses that reflect social policies and concerns prevalent in not only the workplace but also the community and nation from which they are developing.
Serve as member of the DuPont Labor, Employment and Benefits team, working closely with Wilmington Legal and Human Resources to plan, and participate in, the proactive development and implementation of employment risk management strategies, including employee training programs, complaint investigation procedures and practices, and alternative dispute resolution. Provide legal services to DuPont businesses other than Pioneer as appropriate
Work closely with SHE leadership to plan, and participate in, the proactive development and implementation of safety, health, and environmental compliance programs. Participate in two third-party SHE audits per year.
Work closely with Security leadership on investigations and related issues.
GENERAL LEGAL SERVICES
Deliver quality legal services, opinions, and documents to business teams taking into consideration impact, constraints, and alternatives. Provide cogent legal advice based upon sound legal principles, founded in established jurisprudence, and based on analytical assessments of judicial developments as well as practical needs of the business. Influence corporate infrastructures, policies, and paradigms as appropriate.
Interface with business people and outside counsel in such a manner as to maximize utilization of corporate assets.
Stay abreast of legal and business developments and monitor for potential legal risks.
Review and draft company policies and procedures ensuring that they comply with federal and state laws as are applicable.
Conduct investigations and legal analysis by reviewing documents, interviewing witnesses, and obtaining evidence to determine legal risks to the company.
Manage litigation predominantly employment law matters and personal injury matters; represent Pioneer in matters before the EEOC, OSHA, and civil rights agencies.
Implement systems or practices designed to create assets and prevent losses.
Coordinate and oversee matters assigned to outside counsel.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate as member of Legal team and of the DuPont Labor, Employment and Benefits team, attending meetings, leading or assisting with special projects, serving as backup support to other attorneys, etc.
Conduct personal and professional development. Monitor developments in the law which pertain to the company's business and activities and stay current and in compliance with federal and state laws, including attendance at CLE seminars as necessary.

Skills:
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
Doctorate of Jurisprudence.
At least 6 to 8 years of corporate and/or firm legal experience, with a concentration in employment law.
Willingness to travel and frequently work extended hours.
Thorough, balanced grasp of different states' and/or countries' legal systems and the ability to work effectively with outside counsel.
Contract negotiation skills.
Ability and skill to arrive at practical judgment decisions that balance the legal risk with what can be implemented effectively.
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
Effective business counseling, successfully balancing legal risks with business objectives.
Strong advocacy skills, with experience before EEOC, NLRB and other employment-related state and federal agencies preferred.
