Overview
The primary role of the maintenance planner is to improve work force productivity and work quality by eliminating in advance potential delays and obstacles through proper planning of the required materials, procedures, and resources for maintenance work. The planner is responsible for the planning of all maintenance work performed in the area to which he/she is assigned. He/she maintains appropriate records and files to permit meaningful analysis and reporting of results or completed work.
Essential Functions
Review and screen each work order to see that is has been properly filled out
Develop and maintain planned and predictive maintenance procedures as required
Examine jobs to be done and determines best way to accomplish the work
Consult with requester or maintenance supervisor when necessary
Identify and obtain (requisitions, orders, kits as appropriate and in keeping with procedures) materials, special tools and equipment necessary to complete the work
Determine if critical items are in stock by verifying availability with stores
Estimate cost of each work order in terms of direct labor, materials required and total cost
Maintain backlog files of work orders waiting scheduling in accordance with their priority limits with an estimated completion date
Develop a file of standard work orders (plans) for regularly recurring repair jobs, based on historical experience
Review with the maintenance area supervisors the actual labor expended versus estimated labor and material used for completed jobs
Conduct informal training as required of maintenance personnel in proper maintenance procedures and proper reporting procedures and in the use of CMMS software as a maintenance tool
Review all completed work orders for completeness and accuracy, updating machinery history data in the CMMS as required. Keeps Bill of Material up to date
High School diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of five years experience as time served craftsperson is essential
Minimum of two years in the supervision of day-to-day preventive and corrective maintenance is desired
Must possess a demonstrated high degree of tact in dealing with both plant staff and craft personnel
Good verbal and written communication skills
Higher than average administrative and mathematical skills together with a willingness and ability to organize and process paperwork
Possess a personal style and level of capability that will command respect within both maintenance and operating organizations
Adequate trade knowledge to estimate labor hours and materials and to visualize the job to be performed
Mechanical and electrical background is necessary and technical school background is desired
The ability to read blueprints and shop drawings
Computer Literate
Understanding the proper methods to be employed in replacing or maintaining typical mechanical equipment items. This includes, but is not limited to: Conveyors, belt and bucket elevators, flaking and cracking mills, pumps, grinders, food processing equipment etc.
Understanding the proper methods to be employed in replacing or maintaining typical piping systems
May be some minor travel to other plants and training seminars / conferences
