Overview
Execute the facility operations strategy for the Utilities/Engineering group. The Manager - Engineering will report to the Plant Manager and will manage a group of 3 salary employees and oversee management of 7-hourly employees and outside contractors as required by business.
This position is responsible for the parts and services required to maintain the facility’s buildings and facilities to ensure ongoing, cost effective and safe operations.
Essential Functions
Provide ongoing emphasis and training to ensure compliance with Bunge North America (BNA) safety and environmental policies by utility staff and contractors by ensuring work is performed safely and that hazards are anticipated and managed properly. Zero injury mindset for yourself and your staff.
Review work orders and other work demands to determine ongoing priorities to maintain the facility’s buildings and facilities to meet an annual utilities Budget of ~$1.0MM.
Set a positive managerial example and develop/inspire engineering staff members to more effectively perform the responsibilities they presently have plus prepare them for positions of greater responsibility, or success in their current roles. Provide coaching instruction to ensure independent success and that all work as a team towards our financial and operational goals.
Administer collective bargaining agreement as it applies to the utility department.
Confer with processing, packaging, warehouse, quality control, and maintenance managers to resolve engineering problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
Collaborate with maintenance to ensure that capital and major maintenance projects that meet operational needs; improve the overall operation of the plant through teamwork and proactive planning that will ensure engineering designs include a long term approach to reliability centered maintenance.
Lead technical resources for the facility to meet project budgets and strategic goals. Also be a champion for process and equipment improvements.
Responsible for project budgets, schedule, and operational performance of new installations; select, lead, and manage contractors to ensure all projects meet the applicable regulations as well as the financial and operational goals of the Bradley facility.
Overview of scheduling of utility employees, as well as scheduling employee vacations to ensure proper staffing.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering is required
- Ten plus years’ experience in the field is required
- Proven and demonstrated leadership and management skills within a team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with mechanical process equipment, process automation systems, automated packaging equipment, ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, electrical distribution systems, plumbing, PLCs, and instrumentation
- Ability to shift priorities quickly to manage major maintenance projects that support other departments for the overall benefit of the organization
- Strong working knowledge of business software applications: Word, Excel, Power Point, etc…
- Previous experience with any/all of the following software is preferred: SAP, AutoCAD, RSLogix, Siemens PC-S7, WinCC, Factory Talk
- Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills
- Be intelligent, hard-working, collaborative, and hard working
- Requires flexibility to handle after-hours calls; ability to work odd hours, weekends and holidays as necessary
