CHS-Mahnomen has an exciting opportunity. We are looking for a Safety Specialist to administer divisional safety programs at assigned business unit(s) to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work environments. You must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Safety & Compliance Training – Train and educate employees to be aware of job safety and health hazards and to teach them the methods of reducing and/or eliminating those hazards. Coordinate new employee orientations and cover existing employees’ on-going CORE training. Oversee function specific training needed for various tasks in the operation.
Compliance Monitoring – Conduct periodic location inspections regarding housekeeping, equipment and machinery condition, environmental concerns, DOT records and all other safety related issues at locations.
Compliance Documentation – Maintain system to produce safety records and documentation required by the company, state and federal regulations at each location. Conduct periodic reviews to ensure systems are being used and effective.
Communicate Requirements – Communicate with management, safety staff and employees to keep all locations up to date and current regarding changes in safety regulations and programs.
Coordinate Safety Committees – Schedule and organize meetings using monthly safety meeting Minutes and Agenda system.
Keep committee members on track and focused on the issues assigned to them. Document committee progress and communications in RMIS system.
Lead efforts to continually improve the processes we use – Implement procedures that improve safety, environment, compliance and inventory management at assigned business units.
Assist Management on facility improvement projects – Research requirements, suggest options, obtain proposals, and evaluate safety and compliance issues on final project.
Facilitate relationships with local regulatory personal and agencies – Meet with enforcement personal when they inspect facilities. Provide compliance information and help respond to any concerns they may have.
Corrective Actions – Lead efforts to correct any environment, safety and health problems identified by auditors, insurance representation or internal reviews. Refer issues regarding Capital expenditures, Employee Discipline, Operational Changes, etc. to management.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
2 year degree in Safety, Business Administration, or related. 5 years experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
2 years of Safety, Environmental, and/or AgBusiness experience.
Ability to climb ladders and operate equipment needed to inspect facilities.
Four year degree preferred.
