DuPont Pioneer, a world leader in the discovery, development and delivery of elite crop genetics, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientific software development professional who can help develop and implement computational solutions for scientific problems in trait discovery.
We are looking for candidates who have expert knowledge in discovery, a keen interest in programming and significant experience in the computational problem-solving approach using a diverse range of algorithms. The candidate could eventually lead a small team of scientific programmers and developers and will extensively collaborate with experimental biologists, computational biologists and other software developers. A critical aspect of this position involves working with global teams across multiple locations and will require effective project coordination and communication skills. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with strong programming skills, who want to work at the interface of computational and experimental biology and contribute towards scientific discovery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Developing and implementing new algorithms, software pipelines for processing and analysis of high-throughput data and implementation of automated solutions for analytical methodologies.
Optimization and implementation of computational solutions in a high-performance computing environment.
Development of an integrated platform for the analysis and interpretation of diverse datatypes in the context of experimental observations to facilitate the formulation of hypothesis
Actively managing multiple existing projects involving multiple stakeholders across diverse geographies and that span a wide variety of research problems.
In addition, the candidate will also be expected to identify new projects and areas for collaborations.
Skills:
Education and Experience:
PhD (or Masters with equivalent experience) in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer sciences or any relevant physical or mathematical sciences, with significant experience in the development and implementation of computational algorithms.
A minimum of 5-8 years of experience with a proven track record of significant accomplishments in the development of computational solutions for challenging scientific problems.
Competencies:
The ideal candidate must have:
Deep involvement (3-5 years) in developing and implementing software solutions for computational problem-solving challenges involving implementing new or existing algorithms
Deep knowledge of one or more high-throughput data types - omics, next-gen sequencing, etc.
Deep knowledge of Python as a programming language
Deep knowledge of modern software development methodologies
Prior experience in developing large-scale data calculation and analysis software pipelines for high-throughput data.
Prior experience in developing and optimizing solutions for parallel computation in high-performance computing clusters.
Independently handling multiple scientific projects with varying degrees of complexity.
Significant experience working in project teams and managing them.
