Your Principal Duties:

The Electrical Engineer is a part of the Maintenance Equipment Engineering group, based at Norfolk Southern’s Charlotte Roadway Shop.  This small team of engineers is responsible for the design and support of Norfolk Southern’s fleet of track maintenance machines.
A typical project begins with a request from the track department for a machine that will enhance operational safety or productivity, or perform a task that hasn’t been done before.
The Engineering Team meets with the user department and puts together a machine concept.
After concept approval, the Engineering Team creates a detailed machine design.
The machine is then built by Charlotte Roadway Shop personnel, under the guidance of the Engineering Team.
After construction is complete, the Engineering Team conducts machine testing and then goes to the field to put the machine in service and train the machine operators.
Once the machine is in service, the Engineering Team serves as a technical support resource.  The Engineering Team takes the machine from the cradle to the grave.
