Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated engineer to join a growing team focused on the development and delivery of the next generation of Automation and High Through Phenotyping platforms for our global soybean breeding field testing network. This position will be based in Chesterfield, MO, but may include frequent travel to the many other sites in our testing network.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be a part of a diverse global team including agronomists, breeders, scientists, and engineers all working to deliver the best sustainable agricultural solutions ?? producing more food with less resources. While the position will be focused on helping deliver and support our high throughput phenotyping platforms, the successful candidate will also be expected to learn the details of our research processes, and to help as needed with the efforts of the onsite research teams.
Responsibilities
- Testing and development of image and other remote data processing and analysis automation platforms
- Work with Automation and HTP Team and the enlarge Soybean Breeding Team to coordinate field testing of concepts and drive new practices into testing organization
- Work with Environmental modeler, GIS specialist and Soy equipment specialist areas of importance for equipment improvement to drive high-throughput phenotyping
- Support and training for deployment of field automation platforms to global network
- Deployment of novel lab and field automated technologies and systems through all project stages
- Prospecting for new technologies to drive quality and efficiency in field testing operations
- Ability to travel 20%
- Qualifications:
- PhD in Agronomy, Biology, Physics, Remote sensing, Geography or a related field
- Knowledge of Image processing software.
- Experience developing algorithms for remote sensing data interpretation
- Knowledge of agricultural equipment and row crop production practices
- Demonstrated accountability in a highly independent environment
- Demonstrated outstanding communication skills
- Project management and training experience
Desired Skills/Experience
- Familiarity with seed technology industry and plant breeding methodologies
- Experience with installation and programming of automation and controls systems
- Experience with precision agriculture equipment and software systems
- Knowledge of agricultural equipment and row crop production practices
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience working in a highly matrixed environment
