Overview:
This position is responsible for managing the safe, efficient and productive operation of the Fertilizer, Process, and Shipping Receiving departments at Council Bluffs, Iowa OPD.
Essential Functions:
- Manage and direct all functions of operations to ensure employees adhere to safe work practices
- Optimize the efficiency, productivity and profitability of the production, shipping and receiving operations and fertilizer warehouse operations
- Ensure production goals meet the needs of internal and external customers
- Collaborate with the maintenance department to prioritize, plan, and complete both daily elevator and crush department shutdown maintenance
- Strive toward continual productivity and profitability improvement of the crush plant, the elevator, and meal load by utilizing lean principles
- Direct, monitor, implement and maintain safety and environmental programs and improvements and identify improvement opportunities to ensure a safe working environment and provide associated documentation
- Oversee facility rail logistics with a focus on safely meeting the logistical and environmental fluctuations
- Manage operational expenses; participate in expense projection and budgeting process as directed by Facility Manager
- Ensure adherence to best practices, standard practices and compliance with facility work practices and rules
- Ensure safe and efficient truck and rail activities
- Ensure that training and educating of employees, including safety training and Process Safety Management Program is completed and strive for consistent operating practices
- Oversee and manage housekeeping programs to ensure facility maintains regulatory compliance as well as HAACP Program to achieve all associated standards
- Participate in employee recruitment, interviews and hiring process for hourly employees
- Build employee relations and encourage a collaborative and team environment
- Manage and ensure that maintenance programs, including preventative and predictive maintenance opportunities, are completed
- Develop and promote familiarity with refining operations to optimize value chain concepts
Bachelor's degree in Ag or Mechanical Engineering with business admin type courses important and other associated engineering discipline is preferred
Three to five years of experience in oilseed processing or related field is required
Demonstrated experience with ongoing improvement in the areas of safety, productivity and teamwork
Familiarity with agriculture is desirable
Exceptional people management skills with a record of leading and developing employees
Demonstrated organization and planning capabilities
Strong communication (both written and verbal)
Proficient with basic computer skills, including Lotus Notes, Excel, Microsoft Word, SAP, and other technical software packages
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and conflicting objectives
