About the job:
The primary responsibility of this role is to manage and conduct confidential contracted field research projects for a diverse portfolio of clients. Following clients' protocols the biologist will set up field trials and execute the variables, which may involve making pesticide or fertilizer applications, precision seed planting, collecting samples, evaluating plant variables or pests, and analyzing and reporting data. As a part of a dynamic field team the biologist will participate in planting, growing and harvesting crops, configuring and maintaining research and farming equipment, and maintaining the research facility. Position will be based in Yuma, Arizona.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a BS in a field of agricultural science (agronomy, entomology, etc) with five or more years of experience in performing small plot or applied field agricultural research.
Experience with EPA GLP and USDA biotech regulations highly desired.
Candidates should have familiarity with field trial designs, small plot and commercial sprayer calibration and application techniques, general laboratory equipment operation, pest identification skills, knowledge of plant physiology stages and operation of farm equipment and irrigation systems.
Excellent written and spoken English skills mandatory, and experience with writing research reports, and client communication desirable. Spanish skills beneficial.
Working knowledge of basic computer software such as, Excel and Word required. Experience with Gylling Data Management’s ARM (Agricultural Research Manager) and MS Project preferred.
The successful candidate will be a self starter with an upbeat positive attitude, excellent organizational skills, the ability to set up and maintain schedules for multiple projects, meet deadlines and be responsible for setting priorities and directing others when needed. This is a fast paced working environment with a large amount of variety.
This is a field position in the arid southwest. It requires one be able to lift and carry a 50 pound backpack and perform moderately strenuous field activities, including bending down, walking in uneven fields, using a sweep net, climbing up and down ditch banks, on and off equipment, etc. Occasional travel is required for professional development and training.
