Position Summary:

The Engineer applies knowledge of industry regulatory requirements in addition to mathematical and scientific engineering principles in order to develop economical and safe solutions to practical problems. This individual manages projects and performs engineering duties to research, analyze, plan, design, install and/or implement production process and equipment improvements. This position has the responsibility to ensure process and mechanical solutions and project personnel are fully compliant with applicable EHS&S Regulations. The Engineer drives the continuous improvement process while remaining focused on long-term sustainability and innovation.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Performs all duties while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, air permits, building permits, electrical permits, groundwater and potable water permits, etc. Follows and implements new regulations and new interpretations of existing regulations.

• Collaborates with management to determine process and equipment needs, develops scope of the projects, evaluates and implements projects; researches and analyzes design proposals, specifications, vendor manuals and other data to evaluate the process feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of equipment.

• Specifies system components or directs modification of equipment to ensure conformance with sound engineering design practices and performance specifications. Designs, develops, and tests mechanical components, equipment, and machinery.

• Applies engineering principles for process and mechanical projects to research, specify, oversee procurement of, troubleshoot, repair, and install equipment including, but not limited to pumps, compressors, tanks, heat/process exchangers, pressure vessels, pressure relief systems, piping/valves, instruments, controls, software, etc.

• Oversees and directs the development and production of project/process drawings utilizing electronic systems and maintains current hard copies at the plant site. Distributes drawings as appropriate for project bid packages and operational requirements. Ensures drawings are updated to reflect current process and equipment information and produces final ‘as built' drawings at the conclusion of projects.

• Responsible for critical components of compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Planning (RMP) including but not limited to: Process Safety Information, Process Hazard Analysis, Operating Procedures, Employee Training related to equipment and process changes, Contractor vendors, Pre-Start Up Safety Reviews (PSSR), Management of Change (MOC), Mechanical Integrity of process equipment, Incident Investigations, Emergency Response and Compliance Audit participation.

• Conducts root-cause analysis of equipment failures. Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.

• Researches new technologies to determine if viable for plant operations. Develops and tests models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification.

• Maintains safe working environment for project contract vendors by ensuring they comply with all EHS&S rules and regulations.

• Wears the appropriate PPE including, but not limited to steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hard hat, hearing protection, and gloves when entering specified plant areas at all times. Additional PPE may be required based on specific job duties.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four-year college or university required. Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus.

• Minimum of five to ten (5-10) years related experience and / or training in a manufacturing or chemical plant required.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, JD Edwards, and specialty programs to include, but not limited to AutoCAD, P&ID, process control software, etc. Knowledge of PLCs.

• Ability to apply advanced math skills to include, but not limited to algebra, geometry, and calculus.

• Ability to read, understand and interpret safety and health-related laws, regulations and policies and to develop and implement appropriate operating practices.

• Must demonstrate logical approach to complex problem solving and troubleshooting; Excellent technical writing skills, scientific reasoning.

• Process-oriented, a team player, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with multiple disciplines.

• Demonstrated leadership skills; Exhibits confidence in self and others; Inspires and motivates others to perform well; effectively models positive behavior and influences the actions and opinions of others; Effective delegation skills.

• Must be assertive, enthusiastic, accurate, and detail-oriented. Must be able to balance multiple tasks and deadlines, and work well under pressure.

• Travel may be required; Valid driver's license.

• Required to maintain reliable, regular attendance.

Physical Requirements:

This job requires the ability to work in excess of eight hours per day, off-duty hours, and weekends to reach operational goals and compliance requirements. This individual must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle. Job duties may require the ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, bend, stoop, reach, lift, grip, push, pull, move and/or carry equipment which may be in excess of 25 pounds. Finger dexterity is required to operate a computer keyboard, small tools and equipment.

Working in this plant operations environment requires the use of safety equipment to include, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, hard hat, face shield, respiratory protective equipment, and uniforms. This individual may be subject to variations in noise levels and temperature changes due to weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, this individual is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. Loose fitting clothing and open toe/heel shoes are not permitted.

Salary: $80,000 - $95,000 DOE
