The Instrument and Electrical Engineer serves as the technical expert for the Hannibal site in the areas of Instrumentation, Power Distribution, and codes and standards relevant to the operation of a chemical plant.
He or she leads instrument and electrical design efforts to support the development of basic and detailed design of new plants and their infrastructure as well as additions or modifications to existing facilities.
The successful candidate will also provide day to day support for operations and maintenance.
Activities include but are not limited to:
- Interpretation and adherence to BASF Technical Standards, industry standards and regulatory codes.
- Providing field construction support to the installation of instruments and electrical equipment.
- Performing shop and field inspection of instruments and electrical equipment.
- Participation in plant start-up and troubleshooting.
- Participation in EHS and Technical Project Reviews.
- Development of Electrical Distribution Systems, Single Line Diagrams.
- Leading and/or supporting short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies.
- Calculating sizing on control valves and flow meters.
- Preparing specifications and performing bid evaluations for:
- Field instrumentation (temperature, pressure, flow, level, etc).
- Package unit equipment for instrumentation and control.
- Electrical equipment (MCCs, transformers, switchgear, etc).
- Reviewing Vendor drawings for specification compliance.
- Coordination and direction of instrument and electrical Design/Drafting activities (in-house and outside contractor), including but not limited to:
- Instrument index.
- Loop sheets and wiring diagrams.
- Instrument location plans.
- Instrument installation details.
- Control Room/Rack Room equipment arrangement drawings.
- Control panel design.
- Single-Line Diagrams.
- Preparation of estimates for instrument and electrical scope.
- Monitoring of the type of work described above when performed by outside contract engineers and designers for timeliness and cost effectiveness.
- Interfacing with Operations, Vendors, and Contractors throughout design, construction, and startup.
- Preparation of I&E design basis.
- Preparing specifications for SIS (user requirements specifications).
- Preparing specifications and performing bid evaluations for:
- Electrical Heat Tracing Systems.
- Fire Detection and Protection Systems.

Required:
- BS or higher level degree in Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
- 5 or more years of relevant experience.
- P&ID development for instrumentation and electrical equipment.
- Instrument and electrical equipment list development.
- Knowledge of DCS and PLC systems.
- Knowledge of wiring and installation of field instrumentation and electrical equipment, including selection of installation details.
- Knowledge of Hazardous Area Classification for instrument and electrical equipment.
