Summary
A new position at Pact, the External Relations Officer supports the CEO – and Board directors and subject-matter experts – in communicating Pact’s distinctive competencies to key audiences in a compelling and engaging manner that moves them to act to partner with Pact.
The role is externally focused and requires mastery of the communications spectrum from versatile writing styles to compelling message development to effective campaign strategy, from defining audiences to identifying engagement opportunities to cultivating meaningful partnerships. The External Relations Officer crafts messaging with and for the CEO, Board members and SMEs so that stakeholders gain insight into Pact’s promise to shape the future of international development and are catalyzed to engage with Pact.
Specifically, the External Relations Officer deepens Pact’s relationships with bodies such as the World Economic Forum, Clinton Global Initiative, GBCHealth, BSR and others, while identifying and engaging other suitable organizations and coalitions with which Pact can promote its brand of international development and influence development actors.
The External Relations Officer will work directly with Pact’s Leadership Team, program staff and development staff while residing in the Communications Department, reporting to the Director, Communications.
Responsibilities:
• Cultivate audiences identified in the Pact Communications Plan to engage with Pact, using messaging from CEO, Board and SMEs to help them discover Pact, learn Pact and partner with Pact.
• Craft themed campaigns in support of elements of Pact’s Strategy Map and define roles for CEO and others to support those campaigns.
• Work directly with CEO to prepare for message delivery, accommodating and emphasizing CEO’s natural communications strengths.
• Conceive persuasive, engaging, fact-based communications that promote desired actions.
• Write and integrate messaging into a variety of communications vehicles, from blogs, op-eds, speeches, contributed articles, videos, social media, conferences and symposia, personal visits and calls, interactive PDFs, PowerPoints and more.
• Manage, develop and use tools for those communications vehicles.
• Research and fact-check proof points in messaging.
• Create and update calendar of events/conferences/meetings
• Identify venues to pitch CEO/SME appearances.
• Pitch and place stories in trade media.
• Identify meaningful opportunities for advocacy of Pact’s work in the U.S. and internationally that the CEO can influence with his presence and message.
• Discern and manage opportunities in which the influence of the CEO or C-level officers is necessary to “close” partnerships.
Qualifications:
• Superior storytelling skills and writing ability (AP Style preferred). Portfolio required.
• Experience developing communications campaigns and directing the involvement of an organization’s leadership.
• Knowledge of international development space and players.
• Ability to research markets and identify touch-points with those markets.
• Social media savvy and high comfort level with digital communications.
• Knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint; Adobe CS apps preferred.
• Familiarity with international development.
• Professional demeanor, emotional maturity and passion to help others
• Ability to collaborate and earn the trust of Pact leadership.
• Innovation and creativity in messages and modes of delivery.
• B.A. degree in related discipline; Master’s degree in related field preferred.
• Minimum 6 years experience in a communications/journalism/advocacy.
• International experience and sensitivities.
• Fluency in English and another language preferred. French a plus
