BASF Plant Science Video We are currently seeking Assistant / Associate Scientist who will be responsible for supporting greenhouse research activities for Plant Management within the Crop Pipeline Function.
This position will work closely with other research group to deliver high quality plant materials for projects.
The individual will be part of the Plant Management team that has specific responsibility to produce high quality plant material and assist in the daily operations of the greenhouse and plant growth chamber facilities to support diverse programs in plant biotechnology research and development.
The main focus will be to provide service to projects to ensure successful soybean and corn seed increase in the greenhouse.
The incumbent will assist in all phases of plant production, controlled pollinations and seed production, pest monitoring, inventory and storage of seed.
Additionally, the successful candidate will utilize LIMS or spreadsheet (Excel) and database (Access) and other tools for collecting data. In addition, monitoring and operating critical greenhouse and environmental growth chamber controls and equipment, particularly during times when the site is closed on weekend and holiday periods will be a responsibility of this position.
Proper notebook documentation, as well as written and oral communication of results is essential.
Additional duties will include, but are not limited to: maintaining greenhouses and work areas in an organized, clean fashion, following protocols related to specific crop management and research techniques, assisting research personnel in designing appropriate plant production assays, collecting and entering data on various crop experiments, and keeping work areas in safe condition, exceeding corporate and governmental worker protection standards.

Required qualifications:
BS degree in biology, plant science, horticulture, or related agricultural field -OR- A.A. degree in biology, plant science, horticulture, or related agricultural field and 3 years experience in research in plant biology or agricultural sciences. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
A minimum of six (6) months demonstrated experience monitoring disease and insects in greenhouses or a similar environment.
A minimum of six (6) months demonstrated experience applying pesticides in greenhouse or a similar environment.Ability to prioritize and organize work under limited supervision.
Demonstrated ability to meet goals and to attain the desired results, often under time pressure and in a fast changing environment.
Strong attention for detail and quality orientation required.
Ability and willingness to work in the varied climate of a research greenhouse year round (e.g. heat, humidity, etc.).
Available to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis.
Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

Preferred qualifications:
Bachelor degree in biology, plant science, horticulture or related field with at least 3 years industry research experience in plant biology or agricultural sciences.
Pesticide license/certification.
Experience in corn and soybean plants.
Knowledge of LIMS and/or data management systems.
