Research & Development.
We are searching for outstanding candidates who are interested to work for BASF - The Chemical Company. We have an
immediate opportunity available for an Agricultural Research Chemist I within our Global Environmental Fate group
in the Crop Protection Division at our Research Triangle Park, NC location.
The selected candidate will become part of an established, global interdisciplinary research team focused on the
development and registration of new BASF plant protection products as well as support of the active portfolio. The
selected candidate will collaborate with internal technical experts in the environmental fate team and periodically
with personnel in relevant units such as global and/or regional registration, formulations, analytics, ecotoxicology, field
biology, toxicology and global and regional marketing.
Specific responsibilities will be to conduct, summarize, and communicate results from environmental fate studies (e.g.
metabolism, abiotic degradation, sorption) for various active substances and projects. The incumbent will work under
moderate daily supervision routinely engaging in the following tasks:
- Conducts environmental fate studies according to US EPA and/or global regulatory guidelines and participates in their
planning.
- Assists with monitoring of external contractors to ensure high quality of study data.
- Critically evaluates data obtained during assignments and proactively addresses and communicates important data
issues.
- Prepares comprehensive oral and/or written progress reports and assists with preparation of detailed, comprehensive study reports to comply with regulatory guidelines.
- Works cooperatively with colleagues in the global Environmental Fate team as well as in other relevant units within BASF.

Required:
- BS in Chemistry, Toxicology, Environmental Science, Agronomy, Crop Protection, Soil Science, Biochemistry, Biology
or related field
- Experience with laboratory procedures used in the isolation and measurement of trace levels of organic
or inorganic compounds and working knowledge of general laboratory procedures.
- Good written and verbal communication skills (including presentations), as well as demonstrated success
communicating in a team environment.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently & effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research
team.
- Domestic and international travel is expected to be 5 - 10%.
Preferred:
- MS in a related field, or BS with 3+ years direct experierience.
- Knowledge of environmental degradation processes of chemicals (metabolic, photolytic, hydrolytic), and/or
environmental mobility of chemicals.
- Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Experience in the handling and use of 14C radioisotopes.
- Knowledge of the current regulatory requirements and guidelines of national and/or global regulatory agencies for the
registration of plant protection products with regards to the environmental fate of parent substance and metabolites.
- Knowledge of plant protection products, the agricultural products industry, agronomic practices, soil science, and/or
environmental degradation processes.
