DuPont Pioneer is seeking a Research Associate to join the Transformation team. The Research Associate (RA) may take direction from a Research Scientist or Senior Research Associate. The RA will conduct transformation experiments with soybean according to established protocols, and may assist with development of new or improved methods. The RA will generate experimental data and provide adequate numbers of transgenic events and plants to support transgenic trait development efforts of DuPont Pioneer.

Responsibilities:
* Conduct transformation experiments with soybean according to established protocols, assist with development of new or improved methods
* Use liquid and solid tissue culture procedures to maintain stock cultures and generate transgenic events and plants for analysis and seed production
* Related activities such as culture initiation, equipment maintenance, media preparation, culture room maintenance, process improvement, and/or information management
* Enter transformation data and sample information into databases as required
* Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment and tissue culture rooms
* Report on the results of individual or group experiments
* Handle and dispose of waste in the proper manner
* Supervise the work of a lab assistant as needed
* Work will be done within the framework of the Quality Management System


Skills:

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in plant science, biological science or related field such as horticulture or biotechnology, and minimum of 2-4 years of related experience required, or equivalent levels of relevant education and experience. Specific course work in plant tissue culture preferred, with related course work such as cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, plant physiology, plant pathology, microbiology.

Competencies:
* Experience in plant tissue culture required
* Experience in plant genetic transformation preferred
* Knowledge of plant transformation protocols and methodologies, particularly those for soybean
* Experience in sampling plants and plant tissue cultures for molecular and/or biochemical analysis
* Ability to maintain complete, accurate and timely records of experimental data and procedures
* Experience in the use of excel spreadsheets, databases and/or LIMS systems
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; critical thinking and problem-solving skills
