Cattle Feedlot/Farm in southwest Iowa seeking motivated individual. 2500 hd. Backgrounding and finishing cattle. Merit/Experience based pay. Looking for long term employee. Housing and benefits available. General Description of Job: Performing daily operations of running and maintaining a cattle feedlot. Daily operations include animal feeding, animal health, pen maintenance and equipment maintenance.
Essential Duty (30%) Animal Feeding
Tasks: Distributing a total mix ration accurately and efficiently. Utilize proper Bunk Management to feed appropriate amount of ration to pen, appropriately step pens up on rations, properly mixing feedstuffs to create correct ration and accurate record keeping of ration to individual pens. Maintain feeding equipment in good, clean serviceable working condition. Supervise and train other employees involved in feeding. Maintain open and positive verbal and written communication with other staff in areas of animal feeding.
Essential Duty (30%) Individual Animal Treatment
Tasks: Identifying individually sick animals accurately and efficiently. Pulling correct animals from pen with good animal husbandry and administering correct medication at accurate levels. Keeping accurate and complete records for individual animals including using treatment tags and filling out a treatment log. Supervise and train other employees involved in individual animal treatment. Maintain open and positive communication with other staff in areas of individual animal treatment.
Essential Duty (20%) Pen Maintenance
Tasks: Keeping pens clean and well maintained including manure/snow removal, hauling clay back in around aprons, fences and mounds. Keeping waterers and bunks cleaned and maintained. Keeping fences, windbreaks, and shades in good repair. Keep accurate records of stockpiling for manure management. Supervise and train other employees involved in pen maintenance. Maintain open and positive communication with other staff in areas of pen maintenance.
Essential Duty (10%) Mass Processing of Animals
Tasks: Administering proper processing protocols based on animal weight, type and gender using good animal husbandry practices. Using correct medicines at appropriate levels. Keeping accurate records for each pen processing and keeping accurate inventory stocks. Maintain process facilities in good, clean serviceable working condition. Supervise and train other employees involved in processing.
Essential Duty (10%) Animal sorting, loading and unloading
Tasks: Sorting, loading and unloading of cattle using proper animal husbandry practices. Communication with office personal and drivers to ensure proper documentation, head counts, and weights. Nonessential Functions Other duties as assigned.
