Main Responsibilities:
The Economist will support the Chief Economist in advancing progress in the economics function in support of the strategic objectives of Monsanto Company by:
· Supporting the CE's initiatives to ensure timely and relevant advice and support to executive leadership and global business units;
· Assisting in the supervision of research, data collection, and consultantive advice from all business areas to align all economics function within Monsanto to minimize overlap and ensuring consistency company wide;
· Working directly with internal and external resources to maintain, refine and update economic forecasting models;
· Actively contributing to and communicating results internally and externally of economic proprietary forecasts;
· Design ad-hoc and regularly run scenarios in support of various business units;
· Work closely with domestic and overseas teams to identify and address needs, such as: scenario planning, modeling building, and market analysis;
· Publishing a brief, monthly economic newsletter for internal consumption;
· Managing contractual relationships with outside vendors;
· Taking ownership of certain strategic outside partner relationships;
· Communicating Monsanto's vision to both internal and external audiences;
· Providing day-to-day management of the economics function through scheduling coordination, data request fulfillment and other related functions.

Qualifications:
Academic Background
· Bachelors Degree in Economics, Finance, or related degree required. Advanced university degree in Economics, preferred.

Professional Background
· A minumum of 5 years of economic experience
· Experience must include strong analytical skills combined with an ability to identify emerging issues with implications for economic performance. Develop frameworks to assess potential analytical outcomes.
· Experience in preparing, issuing, evaluating and selecting outside vendors for analytical analysis
· Extensive experience in presenting to senior level executives and to a variety of audiences
· Thorough knowledge of global trade and policy issues
· Strong economic modeling experience required
· Well-established contacts with key actors and stakeholders in the economic community
· A proven record of good diplomatic and negotiating skills at a senior level
· Proven management skills and ability to motivate and manage a high-performing, multidisciplinary, preferred work experience with multinational teams
· Constant and consistent communication with all business units to ensure all economic related information is captured, understood, and efforts are not duplicated
· Knowledge and experience working on agricultural issues preferred

· Ability to build collaborative working relationships with people inside and outside the organization
· Excellent communication skills for the promotion of the achievements of the economics function to a wide range of audiences with proven skills in public-speaking and making presentations
