Project Summary:

Alive and Thrive is currently a six-year initiative (2008-2014) funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to reduce nutrition-related death and disability through evidence-based policies and innovative program strategies to improve breastfeeding and complementary feeding in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Viet Nam.

Position Description:

The Financial Analyst III coordinates financial monitoring and support/guidance to project staff, to ensure the fiscal well-being of the project. S/he also provides financial management, conducts analyses of financial data, provides budget analyses for project funds, and prepares required reports for the senior management, donor, and corporate finance. The Financial Analyst III carries out project finances to proactively guide and support respective financial success by providing high level analytical expertise and implementing control systems; analyzes financial data and prepares reports to determine accuracy and completeness; and provides analysis and support on strategic initiatives for senior management and field operations. S/he is responsible for analyzing performance trends, modeling complex business decisions, tracking performance and presenting results and ensures and provides financial expertise, critical thinking, and customer service.

Specific responsibilities include:

Develop, monitor, and adjust fiscal year budget (Approx. $22 million)
Review annual/modification on direct and indirect costs for the project with periodic updates as needed
Perform budget analysis, projections, cost allocation and tracking, and other quantitative and qualitative analyses.
Perform project monthly pipeline analysis and funding status reports.
Assess and provide financial guidance to program and international field office staff
Provide training to support program staff on financial reporting systems and procedures
Prepare project portfolio report and lead monthly portfolio status meetings with technical leads and finance staff
Conduct as needed internal reviews with program, technical and financial staff to obtain and/or verify financial and budget information to ensure quality of budget/fiscal controls.
Develop control system for IWO management process; ensure proper tracking and actions needed from appropriate staff
Monitor very closely the commitment status report and coordinate opportune actions
Assist in the testing and maintenance of the new financial modules and tools
Assists in development of best practices and training initiatives as requested
Ensure prompt in-depth review, approval and submission of imprest reports received from field offices
Monitors field offices cash flow and funds tranfers
Assume primary responsibility for sub-award management. Maintain and introduce improvements as necessary to the financial monitoring system of the sub-awards; conduct in-depth monitoring of partners invoices; accuracy and processing.
Special assignments supporting field office finance with technical assistance and capacity building
Provide backstopping support to field offices as required
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Requirements:

A degree (or its international equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required.
Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of eight years of relevant work experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of six years of relevant experience; or an Associate’s degree plus a minimum of 10 to 12 years of relevant experience.
Prior work experience including financial, analytical, and/or pricing responsibilities, preferably with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Projects.
Prior experience with international and/or cross cultural context is strongly preferred.
Relevant software skills to include automated accounting software, database spreadsheets, Microsoft Office Suite with advance Excel skills
Prior experience handling financial and quantitative information with analytics, accuracy and precision
Independent and resourceful experience in gathering, verifying and analyzing financial data
Demonstrated team leader experience in finance or accounting department preferred
Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English
Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) preferred.
Experience working with an international organization is preferred.
