Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team in Kihei, HI. The individual will partner with the teams on site to support research and seed production to achieve the goals set by our breeders and by our organization. This individual will join a fast-paced team focusing on delivering optimal results while striving for continual improvement of the group.

The selected individual is a member of the site Leadership Team and is responsible for all aspects of the Multi Season nursery programs on Maui, including coordination of all land and labor use on site, budget, and people management responsibilities.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that team is trained in all ESH procedures, regulatory and compliance protocols, and business conduct protocols.
  • Lead the planning, hiring and supervision of program staff, full-time, and part-time nursery team members.
  • Manage all aspects of the site crop plan to ensure the success of all nurseries.
  • Coordinate site efforts with global multi-season nursery plans.
  • Drive the adoption of new technology and tools for all field and lab activities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and documentation.
  • Drive the use of the quality management systems that lead to higher quality and reduced cost in nursery operations.
  • Partner with internal and external specialists in the research and development of nursery management.

Qualifications:
Required Skills/Experience:
  • Minimum of a BS in Agronomy or related field with 10+ years agricultural research experience or MS in Agronomy or related field with 5+ years agricultural research experience.
  • Broad knowledge of crop production and nursery management.
  • Team leadership skills including excellent organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills related to Microsoft Office suite.

Desired Skills/Experience:
  • MS in Plant Breeding or related field.
  • Minimum of two years experience as a direct people manager.
