To transport live birds from producer?s farm to the slaughter plant by means of tractor trailers within required driving range and time.

The hours are generally Sunday – Thursday 11pm – 11am. Other hours and days may be required at the directin of management.

1. Drive to and from farms day and night, accepting assigned loads within required driving range and time.
2. Weigh tractor trailer before going to farms. Must fill up tractor trailer with fuel and make sure it is on scale properly before weighing full load.
3. Drive safely following all regulations and laws as they pertain to commercial drivers. Maintain accurate and timely record of driving hours according to DOT regulations.
4. Comply with poultry welfare policy. Must carry cover during winter and assist with covering load when temperature is below
30 degrees for Broilers and 40 degrees for Cornish. No stopping with full loads during hot weather except for emergency.
5. Make a written pre-trip and post-trip inspection of tractor trailer for each load and fill out DOT inspection forms daily. Report any deficiencies or issues immediately to Live Haul office.
6. Make sure cages are secure before leaving plant and secure before leaving farm to return to plant.
7. Report all accidents to management immediately. Sign in on log at start of shift and out at end of shift.
8. Achieve maximum fuel efficiency by practicing good shifting and accelerating techniques, driving tractor trailer efficiently without exceeding speed limit set by company, and idling only when necessary.
9. Keep tractor in clean condition inside and out.
10. Make sure always wear personal protecting equipment (PPE).
11. Follow company biosecurity measures as prescribed by management.
12. Perform other related responsibilities as assigned by management.

DECISION-MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES

Describe the decision-making authority of this position, the nature and extent of supervision available and the point at which higher approval is required.

Driver is responsible for writing up all safety items on DOT report. Must make decisions when to stop truck when problem arises.

  • Must have Reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Much have valid commercial driver’s license class A and meet all Perdue Fleet Safety department requirements.

Must have 2 years prior and related experience preferred to be considered for this position.
