Chemonics seeks multiple technical, economic, financial, legal, and regulatory specialists for the anticipated USAID-funded Power Africa project.
Launched by President Obama as the new initiative to support economic growth and development in Sub-Saharan Africa, Power Africa aims to increase the supply, access, and affordability of lower carbon power to beneficiaries while ensuring responsible, transparent, and effective management of energy resources throughout the region.
The technical specialists will work in partnership with USAID to provide transaction support and capacity building for a range of private power transactions in Power Africa’s initial focus countries of Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, and Tanzania.
We are looking for people who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world. This position will be located in Africa.
Chemonics is recruiting for a range of specialists, including the following disciplines:
• Engineers: engineering assessment, design, and costing of power projects
• Financial analysts: financial assessment, modeling and structuring of privately financed power arrangements; tariff analysis and modeling
• Economists: feasibility analysis of power projects; tariff analysis and structuring
• Legal specialists: legal structuring and negotiation of private power projects and power purchase agreements; legal frameworks for private sector provision of infrastructure; structuring a negotiation of regional power market agreements
• Regulatory specialists: regulatory policies and procedures for sector and economic regulation of power markets and service providers
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
• Minimum 10 years of international experience in power, other infrastructure development and mobilizing private finance
• Minimum five years of experience in developing countries; Africa experience preferred
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
• Fluency in English required; French capabilities a plus
