As a Graduate Scholar within Bayer’s CropScience, Discovery Research team, the incumbent will primarily be responsible for testing genes for activity against plant-parasitic nematodes in hairy root composite plants.

Related to this position, Bayer offers:
A 1-2 year intensive, post-doctoral program with an opportunity to work closely and collaborate with Sr. Scientists throughout Bayer’s CropScience Research teams; A practical, hands-on assignment which will have direct involvement in a meaningful mission and allows the chance to demonstrate potential by leading projects or initiatives that will aim to deepen expertise in the field of research and gain professional/technical skills to advance in the life sciences field; An opportunity to work within a dynamic environment as a key research contributor while championing ideas and presenting recommendations to Senior Management based on sound research analyses; A comprehensive and competitive salary, incentive plan and benefits package.

Additionally, the incumbent selected for the Graduate Scholar Program will also be primarily responsible for:
Designing and constructing vectors for expressing genes in hairy roots;
Carrying out transformation of plants to create composite plants;
Carrying out nematode infection assays on composite plants.

More specifically related to this position, we seek an individual who possesses:
A Ph.D. in biology, molecular biology, plant pathology, or a related discipline;

Experience with molecular biology, including vector design and construction;
Experience with plant analysis techniques including PCR, and western, Southern, and northern blotting;
Experience with setting up and evaluating nematode assays on plants;

This position requires: Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills;
The ability to troubleshoot and solve problems in a creative and effective way;
Capability to create reports and communicate research progress and results;
Confidentiality of competitive know-how; Compliance with all safety and stewardship standards in the area of responsibility.
