SUMMARY:
The primary function of this position is to help manage the company's communications through the news media, particularly trade and plant community news outlets and those that cover Tyson foods Poultry and Prepared Foods business. Responsibilities include: manage news media relations with trade and plant community news media and those reporters covering Tyson Food's Poultry and Prepared Foods business unit; supporting the company's customer communication efforts by providing important information about issues to Tyson's sales staff; providing public relations support for Tyson's international operations; helping maintain a library of position statements and related information of key issues facing the company; coordinating news events; generating publicity for company initiatives and projects; provide advice to senior leadership on news media responses and other Public Relations strategies.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.

Experience: 10+ years of experience; background in communications, news media and public relations is extremely important.

Computer Skills: Standard computer skills.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; requires some formal public speaking.

Special Skills: This is a key Public Relations position and will require taking the lead in addressing controversial public relations matter on behalf of the company and be instrumental in our development of PR strategy; must have the ability to effectively communicate with the media and to discern when and how to respond.

Supervisory: Position is responsible for supervising a group of personnel who perform somewhat identical and related tasks.

Travel: 6-11 domestic trips per year.
