BASIC FUNCTIONS

Manages poultry hatchery: plans, develops, and implements policies and practices for operation of hatchery to ensure attainment of goals and profitable operation.

Essential Duties and responsibilities:

?Arranges with vendor to supply eggs to meet the production schedule.

?Directs and coordinates, through subordinate supervisory personnel, hatchery activities, such as hatching of eggs, servicing and shipping of chicks, and maintenance of facilities and equipment.

?Manage eggs/hatch for wellness of chicks, ensuring reduction of any condition that could negatively impact livability at the ranches.

?Coordinate with Director of Live Operations for analysis and identification of any health issues and establish protocols to reduce/eliminate these issues.

?Arranges for purchases of equipment and supplies, such as, small tools and equipment, incubator and hatcher parts, vaccines, disinfectants, etc.

?Prepares reports on hatchery activities, such as chick production and performance reports.

?Ensures compliance to all regulatory agencies.

?Plans and implements all activities, products and services in a manner designed to reduce the adverse environmental, social and economic impacts and incorporates commitments to continuous improvement, pollution prevention and efficient use of natural resources
and sustainable practices.

?Assures efficient and economical utilization of materials, improvement of methods, and elimination of wasteful practices within the department through process improvement, capital improvement recommendations, and redesigning of equipment.

?Maintains adherence to company policies, safety standards, humane handling and good housekeeping practices.

?In concert with individual supervisors, establishes accountabilities and goals used for performance evaluation.

?Requires strong financial acumen and the ability to think strategically and creatively. Excellent communication and presentation skills and demonstrated leadership. Demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating subordinates. Strong organizational,
problem solving, and analytical skills with the ability to manage priorities and workflow. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm. Commitment to excellence and high standards.

Education and/or Experience:

?BS/BA degree or Higher preferred in poultry or animal science.

?A minimum of five years poultry operations management (chicken or turkey)

?Base of expertise should include hatchery and/or live bird experience. ?Must have experience in communicating effectively and leading a diverse team.

?Competent PC skills.

?Ability to interact and communicate effectively with other employees, customers, vendors, and other business contacts.

?Ability to work and operate independently under wide latitude for independent action.

Language Skills: Ability to understand, speak, and write fluent English. Spanish a plus but not required.

Reasoning Ability: Accurately complete detailed forms and reports. Calculate figures and amounts.

Work Environment:

Normal heated/ventilated and air-conditioned office environment and Hatchery conditions (chicken dander, strong odors). Occasionally subject to plant conditions (temperatures ranging from 28 to 50 degrees), and Ranch conditions (chicken dander, strong odors,
outside conditions), and Feed Mill conditions (strong odors and grain dust).
