Description
This Research Associate will join a team performing the characterization of expression enabling regulatory sequences (i.e. promoters, introns, terminators) in maize. The successful applicant will work closely with other team members to gather plant tissue samples, and analyze them to determine the strength, timing, and spatial characteristics of expression. The applicant will be expected to collect, and curate all data gathered in order to provide summary reports.

Duties/Responsibilities

* Collection and quality control of samples coming from greenhouse plants.
* Standard plant sampling (i.e. leaf punch).
* Performance of histochemical expression assays.
* Raw data collection and creation of summary reports.
* Effectively communicate with other members of the production team to ensure samples are processed according to experiment priority and to maintain the efficient use of resources.

* Microscopy and macro photography.
* Identification and troubleshooting of sample or protocol issues.
* Maintenance of accurate lab notebooks.
* Provide feedback to research team as needed.

Skills:

Education and Experience

* Bachelor's degree in biological sciences.
* 1-2 years of related experience desired.

Competencies

* Experience and working knowledge of basic plant anatomy.
* Experience working in the greenhouse and knowledge of plant care would be an asset.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Ability to identify problems and communicate them to supervisors in a timely manner.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and good computer skills.
